Madass Folk Club Forum

Welcome to the Madass Folk Club website. The Club is now held each Thursday night at the Muddy Farmer Hotel Annerley starting at 8pm - and admission is free!!

For other great folk music events around Brisbane always go to The Folk Rag.
This week - a sensational lineup!! (Times subject to the whims and vagaries of Dame Fortune!)

  •   Jelly  Jelly is a bit-of-this/bit-of-that group from Queensland’s Granite Belt. They are well known entertainers locally where they play at Whiskey Gully Wines, Severnlea. Exposure to the tourist traffic there has given them a wider following in south east Queensland. John Arlidge and daughter Emily own the winery and the group grew out of their performances in the restaurant. When singer/songwriter/guitarist Lee Williams joined them they took the name Jelly (for John, Emily and Lee – geddit?).
Lee is a pro musician who spent most of his career touring the USA, Australia and many other parts of the world. He’s a jazz/swing specialist so they do a bit of that. John is an amateur who has been finger pickin’ guitar and singing for 40 years -- he loves the old Delta Blues so they do a bit of that. Seventeen year old Emily is a sweet kid who used to do as she was told but doesn’t any more, but she likes pretty much anything musically and is a great contributor and voracious absorber of musical knowledge. As well as a little of their own stuff they do songs by Robert Johnson, Eric Clapton, Eugene McDaniels, Simon and Garfunkel, Cat Stevens, Ella Fitzgerald, Mark Knoffler, Leonard Cohen, Don McLean, Nora Jones, James Taylor and many others. Their music is characterised by the complementary picking styles of Lee and John along with simple vocal harmonies and an undercurrent of humour.
For the Madass they have chosen an eclectic repertoire designed to get you thinking “Oh, I remember that!”

  •   Nigel McTrusty and Caroline Hammond  New folk/rock'n'blues artist, Nigel McTrustry, will be performing his original songs with Lina Hammond on percussion and vocal harmonies. Nigel has recently released his debut CD, 'Excursions', which echoes retro influences from the great singer songwriters of the 60s and 70s.
Nigel's unique soulful voice and original songs provide a musical feast for the audience. If Dylan, Lennon, and Neil Young, are your flavour, Nigel's music will have you salivating."

Come along and support the Madass weekly live folk and acoustic music community.
See you there and bring your friends!!
